Bath Futsal: Manager Talks Aug 8th ’14

This will be the first of our Manager Talks exclusive series looking at the fortunes of Bath Futsal Club who are competing at their highest level nationally this season. So after every game hear what Michael Wootten has to say:

Bath Futsal Club faced Coventry Futsal Club in their first pre season friendly of 2014. The friendly saw Bath Futsal Club field 10 players all trying for a spot in the National league squad. With 10 debutants playing Futsal for the first time it was always thought to be a hard ask for Bath to get a result.

Bath started the first half wanting to see what Coventry had, with the sides meeting in 6 weeks in a National league clash Bath didn’t want to give to much away. The early exchanges resulted in Coventry retaining the ball well and getting the first goal due to a defensive mix up in the Bath defence.

Bath continued with letting Coventry show what they had and were content on working on the defensive shape in a game situation. At half time the game was 3-3, Bath was going into the second half with a slightly more aggressive tactic to see how Coventry would cope.

Almost immediately in the second half Bath found out Coventry were a lot less comfortable on the ball with a little pressure. Bath was now pressing Coventry and the resulting game was a lot more open and a better spectacle for the spectators to watch.

Throughout the second half Coventry were getting stronger and stronger and you could see the inexperience of the Bath side showing through, this resulted in Coventry getting chances and crucially keeping the lead. Bath were able to keep Coventry to within one goal throughout the game other then the final 5 minutes where Coventry went 5-7 up. Bath tried to put more pressure on and had several chances to bring the game level but without any success.

Overall Bath were happy with the game as they got to see a good number of new players as well as seeing what a competitive Coventry side had ahead of the league campaign.

Bath Futsal Manager Talks

First Team Manager, Michael Wootten-
“It was a good game for us despite the result, with so many new players it was good to see how they reacted in a competitive game.

We had a lot of players missing and can take a lot from this game. Coventry are a good side and you can clearly see they have been working hard on the training field with some imaginative set plays.

We now look forward to the game against Division 1 side Gloucester Futsal Revolution on Sunday 10th.”
