Waitrose go head to head for Charity

Waitrose do battle for charity

Keynsham Waitrose branch have thrown down the gauntlet to Bath Waitrose by organising a football match for charity. The two branches will go head to head at Keynsham Town Football Club on Sunday 24th August in a 7pm evening ko which will raise money for the Kelston Road Football Project.

The Kelston Road Football Project works with children in the school holidays giving them free football sessions in Keynsham. This has given the children something to do in the Queen Road area of Keynsham and has received glowing references from the BANES Council and Curo housing alike. It also gives the opportunity to young coaches to gain experience and work alongside Somerset FA Officials.

“One of our Partners, Joe Gardner, is one of the coaches at Kelston and we thought the best way to raise much needed funds was to have a game ourselves” says Community Champion Mark Tanner. “What better way to put our new branch in the spot light than taking on one of the largest Waitrose branches in the country, who assure me they’ll win.”

The players are all paying for the privilege of playing on one of the best pitches in the South West and it’s free for people to watch, with the left over money from the pitch hire going to Kelston. There will be a donation bucket behind the bar for those to wish to contribute any spare change to the cause, with the club bar open throughout the 90 minutes and after the game.  Mark also added “thanks must go to Andy Weeks at Bath City FC who has provided one set of shirts free of charge for the game.”
