Weekend Preview: 1st Nov 2014

Weekend Bath based Preview
1st November 2014

By Mark Tanner

Bath City will be hoping that the fans turn up and get behind their team this weekend as they look to bounce back from an embarrassing FA Cup defeat last weekend. The Romans went down 7-1 in East Thurrock with lots of fans calling for Lee Howells and Adie Britton to go.

However at the start of the week Britton came out and spoke as manager saying that he blamed the players for the performance. Then a message of support from Chairman Paul Williams at the end of week backed up his under fire Director of Football; also blaming the players.

This hasn’t gone down well with the City faithful with many turning to social media and the forum to discuss these statements. So it will now be up to the players this week to put in a decent shift for the fans that still back them and come away with all 3 points from Twerton Park with St Albans visiting this Saturday in a 3pm ko.

Needless to say this is our game of the week so make sure you are there to see if Bath can bounce back and start to climb the league.

Larkhall are facing a big game this weekend too as they travel to 4th placed Taunton Town. The Larks are just a point behind with a game in hand, so a win would mean they swap places. After beating Bishops Cleeve last weekend Larkall then had to travel to AFC Totton on Tuesday where they managed to get a 1-1 draw. Both teams scored in injury time in the first half with Sibbick getting his 3rd goal of the week. KO is a 3pm on Saturday with the Larks still on an exceptional run this season.

Odd Down are becoming very hard to beat but can’t find that winning edge for themselves. They managed a 2-2 draw against Bitton last Saturday then they had a game against Longwell Green at home on Tuesday night. This against finished in a draw with Odd Down scoring in the last minute to earn themselves a 1-1 draw. So this weekend they welcome Falmouth Town to Combe Hay Lane in a 3pm ko where they will be hoping for all 3 points!

Keynsham Town have made it two wins from two this week after they too had a midweek game. They hosted Devizes Town in the league and managed a 4-2 win. This saw Rob Sheriton drop back to centre back and the return of new signing Mark Branton alongside him. It was Tom Morgan getting his 7th and 8th goals of the season alongside another new signing Harris, who also got two, that secured the 3 points. The K’s can now look forward to tomorrow’s trip to Chard Town as they can start to look up the table as long as they keep working hard.

Bath Rugby welcomed their new signing Sam Burgess to the Rec this weekend. Fans will not have to wait long for a game and to see if their new player will feature as it’s LV Cup action this Saturday at Rec as Bath take on London Welsh in a 3pm ko. Again tickets will be extremely limited so if you can’t get tickets make sure you watch another local team and watch the highlights later that evening.

Our featured team Avon Rugby have a tough challenge at home to unbeaten league leaders Coney Hill. Avon currently sit in 5th place and had their game called off last weekend, so they will be eager to play this Saturday. Any little niggles will be cleared up after the forced rest weekend so come on down and look forward to a fast paced game of rugby, 2.30pm ko.

Hope you’ve enjoyed this weekend preview, is your team or sport covered? If not then why not? Get in touch and help promote your local club.
