Football – On a Sunday?!

Bath City start their FA Trophy run this weekend as they take on Gloucester City away. Gloucester are currently ground sharing with Cheltenham Town FC, who have a League Two game on the Saturday, so City will face their local rivals on the Sunday instead. Ko will still be at 3pm with a 48 seat fans coach leaving Twerton Park at 12 midday. Bath will have to shuffle their small squad of senior players again with injuries and suspensions so there maybe a chance to see some of their under 21 squad feature. This is a game they need to win though with £4,000 on offer to the winners, and they’ll be up against former players Charlie Griffin and Adam Connolly.

Larkhall make the short trip over to Bristol to take on Mangotsfield United on Saturday in a 3pm ko. This will be a tough game but the Larks managed to hold the experienced Southern League team to a 1-1 draw earlier in the season at home. Both teams are evently matched in the form tables over the last 5 games with the Larks managing 4 points whilst Mangotsfield have only managed one win and four defeats. Ollie Price and the lads will be hoping to inflict a fourth straight defeat to the Bristol based side and climb the table with the 3 points.

Odd Down will have to dust off the team bus and travel away this weekend after 7 straight home games as they go to Sherborne Town on Saturday in the league. They will be hoping to carry on some of the form they had on Tuesday when they won 5-0 against Chard Town in the cup. Currently on a 4 game unbeaten run in the league they will be hoping to keep up with the top teams in the division with a win this weekend.

Chris King’s Keynsham Town travel to Warminster Town hopeful of taking all 3 points against a team beneath them in the table. There were a lot of positives from the 1-1 draw with in form Wellington last weekend and a few first team players got a run out on Tuesday night. The reserves team took on a strong Saltford side in a rare local derby with players getting some much needed match fitness. The game ended 3-3 but it told King a lot more about the fringe players in his squad as he looks to keep playing his own passing brand of football in the first team and keep a settled formation for his starting XI.

Rugby – Milestones and debuts

Bath Rugby play at the Rec on Friday night in a 7.45 ko against Harlequins in the AVIVA Premiership. There will be 50th appearances for two players should they feature with former academy player Ollie Devoto being on of them. New signing from rugby league Sam Burgess will make his debut on Friday too as he looks to make a immediate impact on the pitch in front of the Bath fans. Tickets will be limited so make sure you get to their ticket office in Argyle street (just off of Pulteney Bridge) early to avoid disappointment.

Featured Teams – Both off

Both Avon Rugby and Bath Futsal have another weekend of training and preparing for the 6th/7th. Avon will be working hard to try and stop their run of narrow loses in the league, whilst Bath Futsal complete the last of their 6 week league break. There will be news of their new kit, players and expectations from their management team next week.

Where will we be?

Most of the our local teams are playing away apart from Bath Rugby but due to work commitments we won’t be able to attend that game. We will be hoping to get the fortunes of Bristol Rovers online this week and next and will be looking for reporters from the other games.

So if you are attending one of these games or one we’ve failed to mention then please get in touch and we’ll help promote your club and your writing. Enjoy another action packed weekend of sport!
