Bath City embark on the first of 5 away trips in a row with a trip to Eastbourne on Saturday in a 3pm ko. Adie Britton has given Pat Keary and Nick McCootie a run out for Paulton Rovers on Tuesday night after signing them on dual registration forms with the Southern League outfit. The other substitutes had a run out on Monday night to keep sharp for the next few games in the build up to the FA Trophy Quarter final tie away to Dover on Feb 7th.

Eastbourne Borough have struggled of late with 2 loses, 2 draws and only 1 win from their last five games. City will be wary of striker Richard Pacquette who has performed well against them in the past. Lee Howells should be able to pick from a full squad for the game with only Dan Bowman as a slight doubt after a knock on Monday night. However the management will have one eye on Tuesday night’s game with Whitehawk with a play off place still a realistic possibility for the club.

Larkhall are aiming to bounce back in the league against AFC Totten at Plan Ham this Saturday in a 3pm ko. The Larks will be hoping for a boosted gate with Bath playing away this weekend. Tracey Hill has written a small preview:

Our opponents are currently just one place below us in the league table, on goal difference alone, so we are expecting this to be a tight contest, as it was when we played down in Hampshire in the equivalent fixture (which ended 1-1). The Stags are in a good run of form with recent 4 back-to-back wins.

There may even be a new signing revealed at the game which should help them maintain their fine form this season.

Odd Down host Willand Rovers in a 3pm ko on Saturday and their gate could also be boosted with Bath fans. This will the first league meeting of the two teams this weekend and both will be going all out to try and get back up the league table. Both teams are on 35 points and a win could lift them as high as 4th place if results go their way, so it should be a cracker!

To round off our local football teams Keynsham Town are also at home, so plenty of football to watch this weekend. They entertain 6th placed Corsham Town on Saturday 3pm ko. When they travelled to Corsham under Steve Cains back in August they went down 5-2 but this is a changed team from the one that travelled that day. Chris King needs the points at this stage of the season with his side on just 30 points from 31 games. 3 teams separate the Ks from the drop zone but most teams have games in hand on them with Roman Glass St George (currently 2nd bottom) with 4 games to catch up.

Members of the Armed forces are granted free entry to all Western League games, so if you’re stationed in the area then come on down this weekend to Odd Down or Keynsham.

Rugby

Bath Rugby have an away game on Friday night this week so Avon Rugby can hope for another 300 plus crowd as they look to settle the score against Cheltenham on Saturday 2.30pm ko. They travelled to Cheltenham back in September when they suffered only their 2nd loss of the season, going down 23-17.

Clive Book and his lads are confident this week after beating their near city rivals Walcot 40-7 in the Combinations cup. So his committed squad will be up for another battle this weekend and look forward to welcoming you to their home ground Hicksfield over the roundabout on the London Road.

Futsal

Billy Whittaker will be looking for a full squad to pick from this Sunday after the disappointment of having to concede their FA Cup game last weekend. Bath face Loughborough United at Hayesfield School in a 2pm ko on Sunday. This will be a real test to see where his squad is in term of fighting for survival in the National League Div 2.

The team put in good performances in the cup against two teams from higher divisions coming away with a convincing win and a narrow loss. His squad will have to keep it tight and fight with a high tempo if they hope to pick up anything from this game. Earlier in the season they lost 12-1 away with a depleted squad so the new signings will have to step up to the mark this weekend to ensure a win.

Plenty of sport going on locally with weekend with Bath Rugby, Bath City and Bristol Rovers all playing away. Give a smaller local team a chance this weekend, you’ll be surprised with the friendly atmosphere you’ll get there.
