Bath Futsal end 2014/15 cup run

Bath Futsal 11-10 London Zappsport
FA Futsal Cup
Hayesfield School
15/03/15

Bath ended London Zappsport’s unbeaten run in the FA cup with just 1.2 seconds left on the clock. A 10m penalty to Bath was awarded due to 5 fouls being committed by London and Ramos stepped up to score.

The first half was one to forget for Bath as they approached the game too slowly in their decision making. London don’t need a second invitation to come at you, having beaten higher league opposition in this FA Cup campaign. So Bath went in 6-2 down at half time. Bath were creating the opportunities in the first half but the play in the final third let the team down.

Bath controlled the second half with patient build up play and scoring 4 goals in the first 8 minutes, however conceding a further 3 to make the score 9-6 to London. Modestos (Ermand) Palepsis then scored with a neat near post finish to reduce the arrears to 2 goal. However, London eased the pressure scoring 1v1 to make the score line 10-7 with 2 minutes to go. With London thinking the game was over, the Portugese combination of Pedro Ferreira and Fabio Ramos scored 3 quick succession goals. The score line was tied at 10-10 and London on 5 fouls, they then lunged on captain Howard Dennis, who was shielding the ball out for the keeper, committing a foul. This meant that Bath were awarded with a 10 metre penalty with 1.2 seconds left on the clock, up stepped Ramos to calmly slot the ball in the bottom right corner and win Bath the game!

The scoreboard reads 11-9 because the officials missed a goal on the stopclock, if Ramos did not score, would of finished 10-10!

We wish London Zappsport the best in the FA Futsal Cup Finals at the Copperbox and thank them for travelling to Bath for this exciting final fixture in this year’s competition. Bath couldn’t progress from the group having to forfeit too many games earlier in the group stage.

Man of the Match: Frank Cobby

Goal scorers:

Howard Dennis (1) (19)
Pedro Ferreira (15) (27) (38) (39)
Fabio Ramos (22) (23) (39) (40)
Modestos (Ermand) Palepsis (34)

Billy Whittaker, Bath’s player-manager, commented:

“It was an incredible win, Fabio (Ramos) scored a 10m penalty with just 1.2 seconds to go. We were 10-7 down with 2 mins to go. Pedro (Ferraira) and Fabio both bagged 2 goals each; London did not know what hit them.”

When asked about relative new comer Frank Cobby Whittaker had nothing but praise. “I gave him a lot of responsibility starting him in the starting 5. It was a big blow losing Michael (Wootten)  from the team last week, but good to see other players coming in.”

Billy also went on to say that there is still one league left this season. Loughborough travel down to Bath on Sunday 22nd and Bath will be looking to put in another decent performance to round off a roller coaster season. The game kicks off at 2pm at Hayesfield Upper School and entry is free with plenty of room in the viewing gallery and pitch side.
