Weekend Preview
Bath based
14th-15th Oct 2015

First preview in a while due to work, hopefully it’s still a useful guide to what’s going on in Bath.

Dodgeball

Bath Spartan Dodgeball club have their first ever game this weekend against Bath Spa Uni. Ko is 11am on Saturday morning at Hayefield School; with two teams from each club competing for local bragging rights. The Spartans were founded by former Bath Spa students who will be keen to compete against their former team mates after recruiting a mix of talented Bath locals.

Football

Bath City are at home in the league this Saturday against Oxford City in a 3pm ko. After the goal scoring return of Kaid Mohamed City have lost their last two games; the latest a 3-1 defeat in the Somerset Premier Cup to Street. The league is the most important competition for the club as they look to improve on last year’s 14th placed finish.

There are two away games for Larkhall and Keynsham, with a free weekend for Odd Down. The Larks travel to Cinderford Town in the Southern League Div One South & West; a win could see them move up to 9th. Keynsham are away in the Les Phillips Cup against Wincanton Town; a local cup competition for members of the Western League. It’s a cup Keynsham have every chance of going far in so Chris King and his young side will look to start well. Both games have a 3pm ko on Saturday.

2nd placed Western Premier League Odd Down will have to wait until Tuesday to resume league action when they host a top of the table clash with Bristol Manor Farm. Manor Farm are top with 40 points after 19 games whilst Odd Down trail with 33 points. However Odd Down have only played 14 games so a win would leave them in an excellent position; 4 points behind with 5 games in hand.

Rugby

Bath Rugby are in European action on Sunday against Toulon away, ko 3.15. The game is televised but the team will be without the popular Sam Burgess who has left the club to go back to rugby league in Australia. Bath’s Head Coach Mike Ford has been quick to replace Burgess and slam is former star player in the local and international press. Scottish international David Denton has joined the club and will look to add to his growing reputation with Bath.

Newly crowded, Senior Team of the Year (by the Bath Chronicle), Bath Rugby Ladies are away this Sunday as well. They take on Wimbledon Ladies in a 3pm ko and will be hoping to end a perfect week with a win.

Avon Rugby look to avoid a 6th straight defeat as they entertain Chosen Hill Former Pupils at home on Saturday in a 2.30 ko. Their last defeat was a close fought game against Stroud going down 33-29 last week.

Futsal

Bath Futsal Club are also on a bad run after losing to local rivals Gloucester last weekend at home. Bath’s next game isn’t until the 6th Dec when they play Gloucester in the return leg. So there is plenty of time for Billy Whittaker and Tim Wells to work with their squad in the local futsal leagues.
