Weekend Round Up 14th/15th Nov 2015

Weekend Round Up
Bath based
14th/15th November 2015

Keynsham registered a 3-0 away win in the cup and Bath Spartan Dodgeball club ran Bath Spa University close this weekend in another action packed weekend of sport.

Firstly though our thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost their lives in the tragic events in France on Friday night. Bath Rugby’s away game against Toulon on Sunday was postponed as a result of this along with all of the other European games scheduled to be played in France. All at Bath Rugby extends their sincerest sympathies to everyone affected by the Paris attacks.

So Keynsham Town stole the show on Saturday with a 3-0 away win over Wincanton. A first half goal from striker Thomas Johnson gave Chris King’s team a 1-0 lead at half time. It took only 5 minutes for student winger Jamie Noble to give the K’s a 2-0 lead in the second half with substitute Harry Churchley adding a 3rd on the 87th minute. This marked a dream debut for Chruchley having only been on the pitch for 7 minutes before opening his account for Keynsham.

This win in the Les Phillips Cup gives the Ks a tough home game against Barnstaple in the 2nd round; date TBC. Keynsham are 13th in the Western League Division One with a short trip to Portishead on Tuesday night. A win would see them climb above their Bristol based neighbours who are in 12th.

Bath Spartan Dodgeball club played in their first ever game against a strong Bath Spa University side. Bath Spa raced in to a early lead but the Spartan’s levelled the games at 3-3. However Bath Spa won the next two games and were then awarded a controversial 6th game after the referee missed a double hit; leaving Bath Spa with a extra player on the court. A tenth game was played with the Spartan’s winning despite having a 2 vs 1 situation at the end of the game thanks to a error from a Bath Spa player stepping over the line and a direct hit.

All involved with Bath Spartan Dodgeball club can be proud with how their new club performed, despite the 6-4 loss. Their are more talented players coming through from the local area who didn’t make the 6 player team this time out. So the club are now looking to play more games in the future against other dodgeball clubs.

Bath Rugby Ladies registered a close fought win against Wimbledon Ladies away. Bath won 31-24 securing a bonus point too after racing away with the game in the second half.

Unfortunately this was as good as it got for our local teams this weekend.

Bath City went down 3-1 at home to a strong Oxford City side. A goal from substitute Nick McCootie in the 92nd minute couldn’t prevent another loss for Lee Howells’ side. Bath now boast the worse form in the Conference South over the last 8 games with the Romans only picking up 5 points in those games. The Romans are still keeping up with the play off positions but they need results to keep up or it could be a slide down the table in the coming weeks.

Larkhall made a real fight of their away game at Cinderford but ended up going down to a single goal. The lively Brad Norris had a number of chances but came up against a decent keeper in Cinderford’s number 1. Wayne Thorne can take the positives from this outing but will be working the lads hard in training to rediscover some league form over the next few games.

Avon Rugby club were the only other team in action this weekend. They are still in search of a much needed league win as they went down 10-20 to Chosen Hill. This marks a 6th straight loss for the club so the lads will be itching to put this right next weekend.
