Odd Down keep the pressure on Western League table toppers Bristol Manor Farm with a win away at Barnstaple. Keynsham maintain their unbeaten home record with another draw and the Larks battle hard for an draw away at Bishops Cleeve.

Bath Rugby and Bath City both lose at home, whilst Avon Rugby lose again with more injuries to their threadbare squad. Bath Futsal also went down away at league leaders Gloucester Uni in a disappointing weekend for half of our local teams.

Barnstaple Town 1-2 Odd Down
Western League Premier

Second placed Odd Down needed another positive result to keep pace with early league leaders Bristol Manor Farm. Barnstaple were the opponents following their promotion last season and proved a stern test for Ray Johnson’s men. The game started at a ferocious pace with Barnstaple taking the lead inside the first minute. However a red card for the Devon club swiftly followed and Kye Simpson equalised with just five minutes played.

Odd Down then took the lead on 39 minutes with Lee Bridson getting on the score sheet. The game was still very close until a second sending off for Barnstaple in the second half. Barnstaple defended well throughout keeping the score at 2-1 at full time.

Keynsham Town 0-0 Wellington
Western League Div 1
AJN Stadium

Chris King’s men managed a 0-0 draw at home to 16th placed Wellington as they maintain an unbeaten home run this season. Their last defeat at home was back in April against Portishead in one of the last league games of the 2014/15 season.

This clean sheet is Keynsham’s 7th of the season with Ashley Wintle as the K’s number 1. Teenager Ben Nicholls is pushing him for a starting spot with healthy competition for places across the squad this season from the under 18s and reserve players. To put this achievement into perspective Keynsham only managed 6 clean sheets last season in all competitions.

Bishops Cleeve 1-1 Larkhall
Southern League Div 1

Neil Arndale was Larkhall’s MOTM in their 1-1 draw on Saturday to give the Larks 10 points from a possible 15 in their last 5 games. Larkhall scored early in the first half thanks to an own goal from a Jamie Lyons corner. The wind played a big part in the attacking fortunes of both sides; Larkhall’ advantage in the first half and Bishops Cleeve in the second.

A 40 yard shot put Bishops Cleeve back on level terms in the second half with neither side finding a decisive second goal. Although the Larks did have the ball in the back of the net again only to see the linesman’s flag up for off side.
