Introducing

Keynsham Town Ladies FC

I stumbled across their new Twitter account a couple of weeks back so I had to try and find out a little more about them. Luckily they are active enough on social media to reply to my questions:

Who is your manager this season?

Barrie Newton

Where did you finish last season?

We were actually relegated from the women’s premier league last season

Where are most of your squad based?

Most of the squad are from the south west. Our captain is from Wales and we have two Spanish girls who are studying here

Has the standard of the league improved?

Women’s football is improving all the time and our league has numerous ex internationals and players that have played at the top level

What can football fans expect when they watch one of your games?

We are a technically efficient, free scoring side; scoring 4 or more goals in half of the games played this season. We have the best goal difference in the league (for the number of games we’ve played) so plenty of offensive football!

Keynsham Town Ladies FC play all of their home league games at the AJN Stadium (Crown Fields Keynsham) usually on a Sunday afternoon. They compete this season in the FA South West Division One after finishing bottom of the FA Premier Southern Division; where they played the likes of Portsmouth, Tottenham, Cardiff & West Ham.

Currently sitting in 4th place having played 12 games and winning 9 of them they are involved in a promotion battle. Larkhall Ladies are top on 34 points from 15 games, Swindon are 2nd with 32 points from 12 games and Chichester are a point above Keynsham on 29 points from 13 games.

So there is plenty to play for at the business end of the 18 game season. Keynsham have to play Larkhall twice and their other two rivals once.

Key Player: Leanne Lapham – with 14 goals from just 16 games this season

That was a clip from Lapham scoring against QPR last season in a 3-2 loss.

The next game for the Ladies team, at the time of writing, is against second placed Swindon Town Ladies at home on Sunday 3rd April. Make sure you get along and support the ladies team as they look to get back into the promotion places.
