Bristol Baseball Round up 17th June 16

Bristol Badgers smashed a club record seven home runs during their 43-9 defeat of the Taunton Musketoons in their SWBL (South West Baseball League) match on Sunday 5th June.

MVP Aaron Thomas hit three while Rhodri Theaker and Dan Malkiel both cleared the fence twice each as the Bristol team kept up the pressure on their opponents with a steady stream of runs.

Second baseman Henry Burridge also had an excellent day with the bat and newcomers Simon Frankcom, Kavin Webb and Nils Eliasson put in strong performances.

“It was good to get back to winning ways again after a tough start to the season,” said team manager Tom Hollies, who pitched four tight innings including eight strikeouts after coming back from a knee injury. “Whilst it was great to see the whole of the team putting in good performances with the bat, we still committed too many errors in the field and that will cost us against the stronger teams.”

The Bristol Bats didn’t have a game that Sunday but both Bristol Baseball teams were forced to sit out their weekend fixtures because of the weather on Sunday 12th June.

The Badgers were due to travel to Plymouth while the Bats were set to entertain the Taunton Musketoons at Failand. Both games will now be rearranged.

The two teams will next be in action on Sunday 26th June. The Bats travel to Taunton for their return fixture against reigning champions, the Muskets, while the Badgers welcome the Newton Brewers to Failand. Both games start at 12 noon.
