Tail end of the season for Bristol BB

No game this weekend for the Bristol Baseball teams so we take a look back at last weekend’s game for the Bats. Thankfully the rain will be doing wonders for the baseball pitch along with all of the local football and rugby pitches!

Spitfires pitching too strong for Bats

A strong pitching performance from Mike Osborn led the Exeter Spitfires to a 26-4 victory over the Bristol Bats at the weekend.

The Bats got off to a slow start giving up 21 runs in the first three innings and failed to get to grips with Osborn who gave up just four runs over six innings.

Taeho Park was the only Bat to have any success against the Spitfires pitcher getting three hits from four at bats.

Only five other Bristol players managed to get a hit during the match played in hot conditions in Exeter.

“The Spitfires were the better team on the day and thoroughly deserved the win,”

said the Bats’ manager Keith Weinberg.

“We played some great baseball at times but need to be ready from the start and it was pleasing to see new players like Adam Weavers and Phil Midgeley making valuable contributions.”

The Bats have one more regular season game remaining against Weston Jets on Sunday 19th August at Somerdale Pavilion and are in a close race with the Taunton Muskets for a place in the SWBL Championship Final.

It will be double delight for Bristol baseball fans on the weekend of the 19th as the Bristol Badgers will start their playoff campaign the same day at Somerdale.

Although their opponents are not confirmed, the Badgers will be hoping to make it to the National AA final on Sunday 26th August.
