Bathford B are the early pace setters in the Premier Division after just one game with five of the division’s teams yet to play (at the time of writing). They were at home to Chippenham C with Peter Mott winning all 3 of his matches, on his debut, supported by Ray Bennett and Stephen Husbands who won two matches each.

Alan Feltham and Ben Greene (another debutant) won a match each but were unable to win the doubles as Bathford won 26-15, with Paul Vincent contributing 3 points.

To those readers unfamiliar with Bath League scoring there are 30 points on offer in each fixture. There are 3 players in each team who all play each other making up 9 matches and 1 doubles match. A match is won when a player wins 3 games. Each game is up to 11 points with the player needing to win by two clear points if it gets to 10-10.

A point is on offer for the team’s overall score with each game won. So in Ray’s first game he defeated Paul 3 games to 1 so Bathford gained 3 points and Chippenham 1 point.

Another feature of the Bath TTL is Clubs having multiple teams. It encourages player development as players from a lower league can play up and on the odd occasion a player can play down. This is what happened with Chippenham C who had to call up Alan and Ben.

It also causes inter club games, these are often closely contested as evident with Oldfield A’s 22-18 away win over Oldfield C.

Sasidharan Anandraj secured a maximum for the C team with 9 points, conceding 3. He was supported by William Guibarra who won a match contributing 5 points and Dennis Combe getting 2 for the cause.

Phil Marshall and Dean Haskett won two matches each and the closely fought doubles with John Wyles winning a match.

Chippenham D top Division One after just one match. They dispatched Oldfield D away 27-11 with Roy Cary and Ben Greene getting maximums and James Wheeler winning two. Mike Newton gained one win with Julie Taylor contributing 2 points and Colin Dowding (playing up) gaining 3 for the cause.

The closest Div One match was Ensleigh A 18-21 Key Centre A on Monday 24th September. Brent Pollard opened his account by winning all three matches although he had to overcome an improving Ollie Newton 3-2. Debutant George Pickering supported his captain with two wins whilst Graham Harbour contributed a point.

Ian Clark clocked up 7 points along with Ollie Newton scoring 5 and Ping Zhang arriving with a further 4 points.

In Division Two Batheaston B and Key Centre B share the top spot with 27 points each. Chris Sharpe and Norman start the season with 100% records as Batheaston overcame Yatton Keynell D 27-10 away. Robert Portlock and Roy Startup gained 4 and 3 points respectively for the home side.

Key Centre B were also away on the opening day with two players on 100% records; defeating Ensleigh B 27-8. Debutant Ricardo Perpetua won all three of his matches with Dave Carter winning his too. Ensleigh’s debutant Phil Taylor scored a respectable 5 points and contributed to their 3-2 doubles loss with Brendan Ruse, who also added a point from his matches.
