Keynsham Ladies vs Poole

Keynsham Ladies 9-0 Poole Town
National League Div One SW
AJN Stadium
18/11/18

Apologies for the late write up on this game, too much table tennis away from writing at the moment. So this didn’t make it into the programme as ‘a view from near the dugout’ – I hope you enjoy it anyway!

This was a game where I also missed the first half an hour and Justine Lorton‘s opener on 18 minutes. Poole’s shot stopper put in a fine display before the flood gates opened on the thirtieth minute mark.

Keynsham break through the middle and a one on one is parried but it falls kindly for Corinne Yorston on the follow up to make it 2-0. Ten minutes later and Keynsham score again with Lorton’s second of the game.

Kerry Bartlett is released on the left and tried to find Laura Williams in the middle with a cross. The ball is pushed away by the keeper but it comes straight back to Williams. The winger tries to lay the ball off to the arriving Lorton but her shot is blocked. However the same again happens, after falling kindly to Williams, but this time Lorton lobs it past the keeper with a well placed shot.

Then there are three quick goals before half time:

Bartlett shoots from distance and the ball takes a deflection off of a defender to wrong foot the keeper; 4-0. A quick freekick on the half way line releases Ellis Hillman who outpaces the defence to finish well at the far post; 5-0. Then it becomes 6-0 on the 45th minute.

Bartlett takes the ball to the by-line on the right and cuts the ball back to Ellie Curson. The midfielder crosses to the back post where Williams is stronger than her marker and stretches to finish past the keeper.

Keynsham weren’t finished yet and came out of the traps quickly after half time and it was no surprise that it become 7-0 with just a minute gone.

Lorton’s freekick, on the left, was floated in with Bartlett heading on to a defenders head to go over the keeper.

Moments later the Poole number one pulled off a fantastic diving save from Williams, as she was set up from a Lorton break away on the left.

Then on 49 minutes the keeper saved, and held, a Bartlett penalty which was awarded after Williams was brought down.

However this penalty save didn’t dampen Bartlett’s confidence as a minute later she made it 8-0. The free scoring forward was released just outside the centre circle. She outpaced her marker to take a touch and place the ball past the on rushing keeper.

The score could have been a lot more this half if it wasn’t for the keeper as she foiled Bartlett again.

Bartlett managed to break away after a cleared through ball was played upfield. Keynsham’s number 9 outmuscled her marker to get a shot away but it was well saved again.

Poole did concede one more in a torrid afternoon for the visitors from the South coast; 9-0 on the 82nd minute. Lorton touches a ball onto Williams on the left, in a counter attack. Williams cuts inside and releases a fierce shot that hits the corner of the woodwork, with Bartlett on hand to volley home her 4th of the afternoon.

So if you’ve been reading this, or any of the other Keynsham Ladies reports, and haven’t been down yet. Then what are you waiting for?

They have a great passing style of play and are cutting teams open in this division. It’s a cheap afternoon of entertainment and supports your local community.

Hope to see you at a game soon!
