A4 is yellow

Keynsham Reserves 4 – 2 Saltford
Somerset County Div One
AJN Stadium
4/5/19

Dubbed as the A4 derby, the AJN Stadium was filled with lots of passionate locals supporting their friends and families on the pitch.

It didn’t take long to open the scoring after a cagey first five minutes. Keynsham broke away on the left wing finding Aaron Childs. The winger takes on his man and shoots from outside the box, the keeper got a hand to it but it was too well hit.

Keynsham doubled their lead just three minutes later. Jamie Noble’s cross from the right finds the head of the striker, who knocks it left to the on rushing Childs to tap in.

Saltford aren’t a team who roll over though and they managed to get back into the game on thirteen minutes. A free kick on the right was floated in with a touch down evading the defence, leaving Aaron Mansell with a tap in.

18 minutes on and Keynsham had their two goal advantage back. An absolute thunder bolt on the half volley from outside the area from Liam Crispin, gave the keeper no chance.

In a strange turn of events on the half hour mark the referee seemed to have broken Saltford number 8s nose, forcing a sub – never seen that before!

The substitute actually allowed Saltford to change their formation and they started to get more time on the ball. This allowed them to come back into the game on thirty eight minutes. A ball over the top from number 11 wasn’t dealt with by the defender and bounced to the path of number 14 who finished well inside the box.

So the game was poised 3-2 at half time and the game could go either way in the next forty five minutes.

However Keynsham came out and really took the game to Saltford. It was hard for Saltford to get out of their own half and were reduced to counter attacking football. The Saltford number one made some great saves to keep the score line down throughout the game.

Keynsham had a strong bench and it was two of those players making a real impact.

There was an attack on the right, with Bryn Williams cutting inside his man and passing to Pat Davison. The experienced striker makes space for a shot, which rockets into the top corner to make it 4-2 on 86 minutes.

Best of luck to both teams next season as the Reserves are promoted to the Premier Division and Saltford will look to gain promotion.
