First league loss

Keynsham Ladies 1-2 MK Dons Women
Southern Premier Division
AJN Stadium
1st Sept 2019

There were a couple of half chances for both teams in the opening exchanges but neither keeper were tested yet.

Ellie Curson was released on the right for Keynsham by Libby Piggott. Her first time cross found the head of Justin Lorton but it was just wide on thirteen minutes.

Kelly Nightingale had a run with the ball up the pitch as the gaps kept opening but her long shot was wide.

The game’s opener came on the twenty third minute. A counter attacking move on the right by Keynsham resulted in Piggott holding the ball up well. She couldn’t find a way past the defence so lays it back to Lorton who chips the keeper from outside the box for an outstanding goal.

During the rest of the half MK Dons started to get a foot hold in the game. There were multiple set pieces but no end produce for either team.

It was three minutes before the break when the Dons finally found a way to equalise. The Dons have tried to find Jessica Driscoll in the box to use her height advantage from around five corners, before it paid off. There was a perfect delivery from a corner on the right and she powers her header home.

Curson fires a long shot wide a moment later for the hosts, but the score is 1-1 at half time.

The Dons had a great chance to take the lead early in the second half. Leah Littlechild got free on the half way line and outpaced Hannah Davies to drill a ball across the box but 9 couldn’t finish.

Chances were coming thick and fast for the Dons as Jade Bell got a long shot in from distance but it was an easy catch for Charlotte Haynes.

Bell gets another chance five minutes later inside the area but Haynes is equal to it again.

Distaster for Keynsham on sixty five minutes as Dominika Netschova steps up to take. However Haynes made a great one handed save, then the follow up hits the bar. The third follow up is seized by Haynes to complete the save and keep the score at 1-1.

Bell tests Haynes again as Keynsham can’t force an attack of their own.

The Dons finally take a lead on seventy five minutes. Littlechild breaks on a counter from the half way line and outpaces the defence after a Keynsham corner. She lifts her head in the box and pulls it across for Bell to tap in.

Corinne Yorston makes the keeper work at the near post but that’s the first shot on target since the first half. Unfortunately for the home faithful this was as good as it got and the Don held on for the win.

Best of luck to MK Dons for the rest of the season!
