Baseball season kicks off in style

Bristol Baseball Club’s spring training kicked off in style on Sunday 2nd February with nearly 50 players attending the first session of the year.

The club are looking to build on a successful 2019 season, which saw The Badgers reach the final of the National BBF AA Championship for the second successive year. Bristol Baseball Club’s coaches are delighted with the attendance and the talent on show.

“It was impressive to see the mix of established players, experienced players new to the club and rookies new to the game put in so much effort on the first day of spring training,”

said the club’s head coach, Rhodri Theaker.

“The club has great hopes for the season and this start will help us to be at the forefront of developing quality baseball in the country.”

New York Mets fan, Jo Lenton was one of those making her first appearance with the club.

“I’ve loved baseball for a few years now so it was fantastic to be able to have a go at playing it. Bristol Baseball is a very welcoming club and our first session was great fun. Bring on the season.”

This coming Sunday (9th February), the club welcomes Bristolian Chris Taylor. The former England cricket fielding coach, who will be running a special lunchtime training session.

“I am really looking forward to sharing my knowledge with the club and hoping to pick up some tips as well. There is a lot both sports can learn from each other and I am sure it will be a great day.”

The club has seven more spring training sessions, a friendly with Worcester Sorcerers, and a couple of club trial games before the league season starts on Sunday 19th April.
