Bath City Friendlies 2017/18

Bath City have announced seven pre-season friendlies so far this year with the Romans entertaining five football league sides at home:

Bristol City (H) – 7.45pm Tuesday 11 July

It’s hard to know which Bristol City side will be turning up. City have got some fantastic links with their under 23 side so you can expect that Gary Owers will be looking at the performances of some of the younger players who will feature.

Exeter City (H) – 7.30pm Friday 14 July

This game is part of the Supporters Direct cup which is played between community owner clubs each year; Brian Lomax SD Cup. It will be good to see Paul Tisdale back at this home town and with a strong Exeter side ready to entertain this travelling supporters.

Reading U23 (H) – 7.30pm Tuesday 18 July

Must be a condition of some of the loan players that we have taken on since Owers has returned to Bath. Liam Kelly is now an important part of Jaap Stam’s team and hopefully we will see Axel Andresson in the first team this season.

Cheltenham Town (H) – 7.30pm Thursday 20 July

Gary Johnson’s Cheltenham side are the next visitors and this will be a big test for Bath. It will also be an excellent opportunity to assess loan options from Cheltenham for the coming season.

Clevedon Town (A) – 3pm Saturday 22 July

Last season saw almost a starting eleven of former City players including Gethin Jones, Glyn Garner and Adam Connolly. It’ll be a decent little away trip and a chance to see some familiar faces for the fans.

Bristol Rovers (H) – 7.45pm Wednesday 26 July

Always a fixture of pre-season to look forward to! Rovers fans have a great affiliation with Bath due to the time they spent at Twerton Park in the mid 90s as their redevelopment was going on. At this stage of pre-season expect a strong showing from both sides as Darrell Clarke will not have forgotten the 2-0 away victory Bath had over them in the FAT.

Yate Town (A) – 3pm Saturday 29 July

Finishing off the friendlies is only a second away trip. This will see Owers putting the final touches to his squad as they look towards the league season.

It should also be mentioned that the supporters have had a pre-season of their own this year. Around 22 City fans travelled to Northern Italy to take on Lecco supporters in a match to celebrate the 40th year anniversary of Lecco winning the Anglo-Italian cup.

City lost 3-0 in the final all those years ago and Bath City TV spoke to Paul Glover who played in that game:

This time around it looked to be going the same way with City 2-0 but two goals from Jack Rowlands levelled the scores. Judging by the pictures this is a trip that will live long in the memories of those fans who made the trip and praise must be given to those who organised the event.

In true democratic style, well for those who can use a PC, City held an away shirt vote. This was a chance for fans to vote for their favourite colour from a choice of 4 and this was the outcome:
