Bath City Supporters FC – March big kickabout result

Bath City Supporters home 9-4 Bath City Supporters away
Odd Down Playing Fields 3G

Bath City Supporters FC got the community ownership fundraising started on Saturday 14th March when they played out a 9-4 fan’s game. This event in the morning, before Bath City drew with Concord Rangers, put the first bit of money into the community pot.

Donning the old first team kits from last year 24 City fans battled it out up at the newly opened Odd Down 3G pitch in very cold conditions. Paul Hill’s ‘home team’ got off to a good start scoring first but the lead only lasted a few minutes as Chris Reed’s ‘away team’ equalised. However the flood gates then opened after that for the away team and the home team went in 8-1 up at half time.

The away side rallied behind their skipper in the second half and pushed forward a lot more; finding space well in the final third. Goals soon followed but the gap was too big to overcome and the game finished 9-4 to the stripes.

A light hearted penalty shoot-out was enjoyed by all the players at the end of the game. Players aged 16 to 45 all took a penalty and it came down to the last few penalties to decide on a winner with the away team edging it by two goals.

It was a great morning for all fans to get together and enjoy themselves before they watched City in the afternoon. Each player paid £5 to play which covered the pitch fees with the excess going into the community ownership pot. MP hopeful Steve Bradley was there causing problems for a young defence on the left hand side. He took to Twitter saying how much he enjoyed the game:

“Proud to play in Big Bath City FC Kickabout at Odd Down playing fields to raise funds for Bath City FC Society Community Club plan”

There is still a long way to go to raise 1.4 million pounds for the community ownership bid to succeed and the Society will need a lot more events like this to make it work. It will only work with your involvement and commitment, so if you have any fundraising ideas or can help with events then please visit http://bathcitycommunity.org/ and register your interest.

At least now it’s only roughly £1,399,940 to go so make sure you help get this total down in the coming weeks!
