Bath’s Easter football results
The Larks are flying in a different direction
Larkhall recorded the only points of the weekend when they played on Saturday but suffered a heavy defeat on Monday. Bath City, Odd Down and Keynsham lost all of their respective games in a miserable weekend for our football teams.
On Saturday Larkhall were the only local team to play as they travelled to Wantage Town and came back with a 3-0 win. After some close opening exchanges the Larks went 1-0 up just before half time with their new signing Dean Griffiths getting a debt goal. They were soon 2-0 up after the restart with the Larks attacking from the off, Joe Tumelty getting the goal. Tyler Sibbick then notched his 34th goal of the season after a great solo run and shot making it 3-0.
However this was the only victory of the long weekend for the Larks as they suffered a 3-0 defeat away at Yate Town on Monday. A brilliant half volley put Yate 1-0 up early on from Jacob Cox and they added a second just before half time. Jordan Rogers held the ball up well creating the space for Jake Jackson to stroke the ball home into an empty net. Yate then put the game to bed in the second half through an excellent team goal with Rogers assisting Dale Evans this time.
These two results keeps Larkhall in 5th place and with 3 hard games coming up against Tiverton Town, already promoted Merthyr Town and finally Sholing. They have a 5 point gap but teams like Yate are only 6 points behind, so the Larks will need to win 2 from 3 to secure a top 5 finish and a play off place.
Bath City had a Bank Holiday to forget as they went down 2-0 to Havant & Waterlooville on Easter Monday. The goals came in the second half and really punished City for not making the most of their chances.
Odd Down had the worse weekend of all as they went down 4-2 at home to Cadbury Heath on Good Friday. Then on Bank Holiday Monday they conceded 5 to 2nd placed Buckland Athletic with no reply. Ray Johnson will be frustrated after winning the Manager of the Month award last month. They still sit in 5th place in the league but need to pick up points from their remaining games in this tight league otherwise they could fall as low as 10th in the final standings.
Keynsham Town didn’t fair any better and manager Chris King will be feeling the pressure now. They played the bottom placed team, Portishead Town, at home on Good Friday and lost 3-0 in front of a healthy crowd of 72. This result means they slip down another place to 18th with just two away games remaining. They could still finish as low as 20th or two wins could see them move up to 16th if results go their way.
