Centre of Excellence could be coming to Keynsham

In the 2017 season Bristol Baseball Club will be playing their home games at Keynsham’s Somerdale Pavilion with the new pitch being laid this month. The ambitious club are planning on staying in Keynsham for the long term with efforts being made to turn Somerdale into a Centre of Excellence.

A Crowdfunder page has been set up to try and raise £5000 with the following information:

Bristol Baseball Club has relocated to Somerdale Pavilion in Keynsham, mid way between Bristol and Bath. We have a three year plan to create a regional centre of baseball excellence at Somerdale.

The first stage is to build a new baseball field at Somerdale ready for the 2017 season which starts in May. We will then begin to improve the field over the following two years to enable it to become a regional centre. This project will benefit not only the sport in the South and West but also enable the club to set up a youth section in 2018 for Under 16s and recruit more widely from the local community.

Work on the new field will start this month and includes the relocation of the backstop fence, the outfield fence and other equipment to Somerdale. To achieve the club will need to spend in the region of £5,000 to achieve this. The cost will include the hire of transport, mechanical equipment, the purchase of clay bricks and redgra to construct a top quality baseball diamond.

Members of the club will carry out the work to make sure the field is ready for outdoor training which will start at the beginning of April.

Bristol Baseball Club, which was formed in 2008 and has over 40 members, currently runs two teams who compete in the South West Baseball League. We also are running a development side for the first time in 2017 and they will play a series of friendlies throughout the season.
