Fan’s View: Welling Away Dec ’14

Welling Utd Away Dec 2014

Saturday saw Rovers play their second away game in a week against Welling. Like the game up at Wrexham, the final score was 0-0.

It is a bit disappointing as the week before we beat them at home 2-0. We haven’t lost, but 3 points would have cut Barnet’s lead at the top a bit.

In the wake of the Wrexham game, Steve Mildenhall had been ruled out for a while so the manager acted quickly and brought in Notts County goalkeeper Fabien Speiss.

I couldn’t make it to the game on Saturday but I’ve read the review and watched the highlights. Rovers created a few chances and I think on another day would have scored a couple of goals. Bradley Goldberg had a few chances but saw his efforts saved by the Welling keeper. In the second half rovers had one attempt cleared off the line following a corner. In the dying minutes of the game, Rovers nearly took all 3 points with the lively Jake Gosling putting a shot wide.

On the positive side, it’s a point away from home which now takes us to one loss in 18 games which is great!

A special mention goes to the away support yet again as we have traveled in numbers and shown fantastic support!

On Saturday we take on local club Bath City in the FA trophy at the Mem. I’ve read a few comments on Twitter from Rovers fans saying it’s an unwelcome distraction playing in this cup and we should play a weakened side, but why? Surely if we do well this will breed confidence? Yes, it will clog up the fixtures but we have quite a big squad with some of the first team not even making the subs bench and this would be a great platform to show the manager why they should be in the team.

Come on Rovers!
