Growth of Walking Football

Walking Football
a slower version of the beautiful game

This version of football is designed for the over 50s to help them get out of the house and get active by playing football again. The main differences between standard football and walking football is no running and no slide tackles. Any breaking of the rules and the opposition get a free kick.

So, if you used to play football but now find the pace a bit too much or if you’ve never had the chance to be involved before, walking football is the perfect introduction to playing football for people aged 50 years and over, no age limit! Or for anyone of any age who isn’t as mobile as they would like.

So deep down, are you still dying to play?

  • A popular means of keeping fit, learning new skills, having fun and socializing!
  • Never too old to play! Non-contact sport!
  • The social aspect of the session as important as the game itself.

The sport is growing up and down the country and here in the South West Keynsham Town JFC are providing sessions.

Sessions will be run by Nick Dewfall a licenced football coach and qualified exercise instructor who specialises in inclusive sport and fitness. Nick is fully insured through both the FA licenced coaches club and the Register of Exercise Professionals and also holds coaching disabled footballers, Futsal & first aid qualifications.

The initial pilot scheme will run for 10 weeks from Friday 15th August and will take place on the courts in Keynsham park. The project is supported by Keynsham Town Council and will be run by Keynsham Town Junior Football in partnership with Sirona care & health. Sustainability will depend on numbers attending and there will be a nominal charge (max £3) per week.

Sessions will be an hour in duration and consist of warm up & stretch, skills & ball work followed by a game of approx 35-40 minutes. Although a slower pace than standard football you may experience feelings of exertion and become hot & uncomfortable at times with increased heart rate and breathing. At all times you must ensure your activity levels remain within you capabilities and if in any doubt, stop.
