KTFC End of season awards May ‘15

Keynsham Town FC held their end of season awards on Friday 22nd May. The AJN Stadium bar was full with all senior teams recognised by their management and committee alike.

Scott Brain picked up the First team Manager’s player of the season award. Long serving player Rob Sheriton took the other first team award in the Players’ player of the year award. Scott and Rob stayed with the club after Steve Cains was dismissed at the end of September, with current manager Chris King stepping up from the Reserves.

“Importantly, we kept some of the experienced players already at the club and brought in a few new signings to improve things further. Young players at the club also got plenty of opportunities to play at 1st team level this time round so that was good to see.” said King when looking back on the 2014/15 season.

Results slowly got better for the Ks as they adapted to the way King wanted them to play.

“We’re relatively pleased with how the season went; it was very much a building season and we hope to improve things further next season. Thankfully results picked up and we produced plenty of promising performances throughout the season.”

Keynsham finished with a near identical record to last season after the changes to the squad. However King recalls a few highlights from his first season in charge of the Western League Div One club:

“Highlights were probably our first win at Chippenham with 10 men, great comebacks to snatch late draws away to Welton Rovers and Hengrove and key wins over Westbury, Roman Glass and Portishead away.”

“TV coverage of our game against Barnstaple Town was also a nice moment for the club and a bit more luck that day could have seen us snatch a draw against the eventual league champions.”

When King moved up to manage the first team at the end of September it left a void in the Reserves. In the short term Chris Gardner stepped up to help coach the team and was awarded with the Manager’s player of the season award for the Reserves. Youngster Harry Ollis enjoyed a successful campaign in the Reserves and was voted players’ player of the season.

Mitch Day cleaned up the awards for the 3rd team; taking both awards. Aaron Childs was also up twice on the night, once to collect the under 18s Manager’s player of the season award and again to collect the club’s overall Golden Boot award. Ben Nicholls was voted Players’ player of the season award for the under 18s.

There was also a special award for long service which went to Paul Ewins. Paul has been with the club for years and played a number of first team games as player/assistant manager in the 2013/14 season under Cains. Unfortunately he suffered a career threatening injury towards the end of that season. However he has got himself back to fitness and helped the Reserves pull away from the bottom of their league in the last few games of this season.

Thanks was also given to their main sponsor Smart Computers and to their food sponsor The Crown Inn.
