Promising times at Bath Futsal Club Sept 2015

Early season promise
National League Div 2 Midlands
Bath Futsal Club

Bath Futsal Club are two games into their 12 game season and currently sit in 5th place in the National Futsal League Division Two Midlands. Bath need to finish off the bottom of the league this season to avoid relegation; this season is the first season where the bottom teams in Division Two (North, Midllands, South) get relegated as the sport grows in the UK.

Last season was very inconsistent with founder Michael Wootten departing the club for pastures new and Billy Whittaker taking over half way through. The new player manager was very quick to change his squad this season with an influx of new talented players coming through.

Max Western has been stealing the headlines already with 9 goals in the first two games. A summer signing from Team Bath the quick forward can unlock a defence in a matter of seconds, which the Cambridge & Coventry defences quickly came to realise; with Max scoring 3 & 6 goals respectively.

On Thursday 24th September a small Bath squad travelled to the outskirts of Bristol to take on higher league opponents Bristol City Futsal Club in a training game. The scoreline wasn’t important with both teams looking to work on different aspects of their games. This served both managers well as they look to shape their squads ready for their next games. A number of different players featured for both clubs with individuals hoping to impress.

Bath have been conceding too many goals in their opening two games with a 13-6 loss away to Cambridge in their opening fixture and a 10-6 win away at Coventry. Both of these games have also seen small squads travel which is something Whittaker will have to address if Bath are to live up to their 4th placed billing by Futsal Pro Magazine.

One player that could give Bath the lift they need is the return of former captain Howard Dennis. Scoring two goals against Bristol City the lively play maker has the experience needed to play at National League level. If available to play on a Sunday for the upcoming National League matches then Whittaker will have a much stronger squad to pick from.

If any players want to play Futsal then get in touch with Bath Futsal Club on their social media. There is also a social league starting up soon in Bath run by the Somerset FA which is great for a players development of Futsal or in improving their touch and awareness in Football.
