Weekend Preview 15th Nov ’14

Weekend Bath based Preview
15th November 2014

By Mark Tanner

Bath City take on Maidenhead in the Conference South after their recent win over Shepton Mallet in the Somerset Premier Club midweek. That game was a great opportunity for the younger players to gain some experience whilst the likes of Chris Allen, Frankie Artus and Phil Walsh continued their recovery from injury. There is still a lot of worrying talk about the club’s recent statement so it’s vital that the people of Bath come out to the support this team this Saturday 3pm.

Bath City have also got some special Family ticket deals available for this game and throughout the season:

SPECIAL DEALS:
U16s: £1.00 when accompanied by paying adult
FAMILY: £18.00 for 2 parents + 2 children
(for both deals get tickets at the ticket office, not turnstile)

Make sure you take advantage this weekend, 2015 calendars are also on sale at just £5!

Larkhall have Wantage Town at Plain Ham on Saturday in a 3pm ko. The Larks earned themselves a hard fought goalless draw away to Evesham last weekend. They also managed to pick up an award at the Bath Chronicle Sports Awards so a very good season is getting even better!

Odd Down are at home in the Les Phillips Cup on Saturday 3pm ko. They entertain Western League Div One side Cribbs for a place in the next round in a competition they could go all the way in. So this means all 3 Bath based clubs are at home so pick your game carefully!

Keynsham Town are away in the league this weekend at Calne Town on Saturday 3pm ko. The suffered a 5-0 loss to Barnstaple in the league last Saturday and a 4-0 loss to Taunton in the Somerset Premier Cup on Tuesday. Chris King will need fortunes to improve quickly as they look to pull away from the bottom few clubs in a tight league going into the Christmas period.

Bath Rugby will be pleased to get back to league action this weekend after suffering a loss to Exeter last weekend in the LV Cup. They take on Newcastle at home which should see another sell-out crowd at the Rec for Bath’s premier sporting side. Captain Stuart Hooper will be full of confidence following his award at the Bath Chronicle Sports Awards on Thursday and will need the help of the vocal crowd to help the lads on to a victory.

A local derby could be just the tonic that Avon Rugby need after slipping down the league table to 6th place following a defeat last weekend. They take on 7th placed Keynsham Rugby away this Saturday at Crown Fields. Kai Harwood will need to draw on all of his experience to drive his team mates on to victory as they look to try and keep up with the top 4 clubs this season.

Bath Futsal Club are still in training during their national league break. Their development squad have qualified for the Futsal Cup national stages though after winning a close league locally. They travel to Swindon early on Saturday to take part in the next round, so we wish them the best of luck!

Where will we be?

This weekend sees the National Table Tennis Grand Prix come to Bristol. It is the 4th of a 10 series event which sees the best UK players compete all over the UK. So well will be there covering it for the first time since the Heritage Oil open back in the summer.

We have already been speaking to Abbie Milwain and Chris Doran about their chances and they are our tips for the premier competitions. There are a number of different bands spread over two days thought the with the men’s competitions going down to band 6. It is also a great chance for local players to go and get tips from the best players in the UK and a chance to buy equipment which isn’t readily available in sports shops.

Best of all it’s a free event and it’s taking place in the UWE sports hall; which is a great hub for local indoor sports throughout the year.

Just a quick shout out to our friends at Aberystwyth Town FC who travel to TNS on Friday night with a chance to try and cement 2nd place. This is a fantastic achievement from a few years ago, let’s hope they can get the 3 points tonight as the town will be buzzing when they get home!

It’s shaping up to be another great weekend of sport so make sure you take in a local game wherever you are; there are plenty to pick from! If you’re at one of our local teams games then get in touch and submit your thoughts or a match report.

Enjoy it!
