Weekend Preview 18th April ’15

Weekend Preview
Bath based teams
18th April 2015

Cricket nets and friendlies have started for many of our local teams, the tennis season is in full flow and golf is perfect in this weather….

However it’s football that takes centre stage for just a couple more weeks yet.

Larkhall – Having secured a play off place in their first ever Southern League Div One season they make the trip to already promoted Merthyr Town today for a 3pm ko. Merthyr are a community owned club who have managed to reform their club in the last few years and are looking to get back to Conference football; regularly attracting over 1,000 fans for every home game.

The Larks go into the game full of confidence though having beaten a strong Tiverton Town side 5-0 at home in their last league game; which clinched them their play off place. Wayne Thorne will be doing all he can to ensure a victory today and with Tyler Sibbick in the side they have goals in the team.

Bristol Rovers – Thousands of Rovers fans will be travelling to Dover today in search of all 3 points to keep the pressure on Barnet. Barnet are top by a point with Rovers second so nothing less than a victory will do to try and steal back the top spot. Only the top side go up automatically so fans will be nervously checking the score from the Kidderminster vs Barnet game.

Bath City – It’s an important day for Bath off the pitch today. Before their home game against Sutton this afternoon in a 3pm ko, both supporters groups are meeting in Charlie’s and Randall’s to talk about community ownership issues. The Supporters Club will be deciding on what to do with their shareholding in the club whilst the Society will be discussing finer points of the proposal.

Also after the game is the End of Season awards night in Charlie’s bar. Supporters Player of the season, Adult supporter of the season and Young supporter of the season will be decided by the fans. There will also be Manager’s player of the season, Player’s player of the season, top goal scorer etc presented on the night too.

Odd Down – Playing in their last game of the season Odd Down will be looking for all 3 points away to Street. They need the points to try and cement 4th spot in the Western Premier by getting the points on the board. A 3-0 win in their last game against Longwell Green was vital in keeping them ahead of the chasing pack.

Bradford Town are behind them with 3 games left to play on 57 points (2 points behind), Bitton also have 2 games left and Slimbridge have 4 games left also on 57 points. Incredibly Willand Rovers also have 5 games left on 55 points, so Odd Down could still finish the season as low as 8th. Ray Johnson will know that a win is crucial to their final league standings and the higher they finish the easier it is to sign players to the club for next season.

Keynsham Town – The Ks play their final game of the season with a trip to Ashton and Backwell. Ashton are having a much improved season this year after a disappointing 2013/14 season; currently sitting in 6th place. Chris King will be wanting to sign off his debut season with a strong performance from his young side as he looks to build his squad for next season.

Whichever game you are off to today make sure you back the lads for the full 90 minutes in the last few games of another exciting football season.
