Weekend Preview 6th-7th Dec ’14

Weekend Bath based Preview
Sat 6th-Sun 7th Dec 2014

Bath City FC

Bath travel to St Albans in the Conference South on Saturday 6th in a 3pm ko. The supporters coach leaves Twerton Park at 9.45 with out the usual trip along the London Road, instead going through Keynsham to avoid the Christmas Market traffic in Bath.

Ross Stearn will be hoping that his match winning performance on Tuesday night in the cup will be enough to get him just his 9th start of the season. Andy Gallinagh came off the bench in that game too as he looks to gain match fitness ahead of Dan Bowman’s suspension. City will be hoping to keep yellow cards to a minimum for the rest of the season as they have suffered a lot of player suspensions for 5 yellow cards already this season.

St Alban’s form over the last five league games has been mixed with 2 wins and 3 loses. Their last league game was an decent 1-0 win over Havant at home in front of just 349 so the City faithful can play a good part in roaring their team on to victory.

Larkhall Athletic

Following up on a hard fought 1-0 over Mangotsfield United last weekend the Larks entertain Bashley for the first time at Plain Ham in a 3pm ko on Saturday. Bashley are another well established Southern Premier side which will provide a stern test for Wayne Thorne’s men.

Despite their low league position and only acquiring 5 points so far this season the Larks will have to be wary of Bashley who could have a strong away following. Since their relegation Bashley have had to rebuild their squad with no budget and rely on youth players playing for free. Their one win this season has come on the road though and they will be scrapping for every 50/50 and taking every half chance.

If you’re not heading out to St Albans then make sure you take in a local game where you’ll get a warm welcome on another cold weekend!

Odd Down

It’s the next round of the FA Vase and Odd Down have drawn Bradford Town away this Saturday at 3pm. This is the last money making competition both teams are left in so expect a very close game. Odd Down travelled well after their 7 straight home games and managed a 2-2 draw away to Sherbourne Town last weekend.

Bradford are still going well after their promotion to the Western Premier and are currently mid-table with games in hand of the teams around them. They actually beat Odd Down last time they played in the league 2-1 so they will be ready for another close game this weekend.

Keynsham Town

Keynsham are sliding back down the Western League Div One table again after their mixed form last month following a 5-0 defeat away at Warminster last weekend. This Saturday thought they welcome Cheddar to the AJN Stadium in a 3pm ko. Cheddar always prove a stern test in a usually heated game.

Cheddar are 8th in the table and are on a 4 game unbeaten run, winning all their games in November. They dispatched Roman Glass St George 6-1 away and beat high flying Corsham Town in a close 4-3 game last weekend. So Chris King will be hoping that his preferred starting XI are available otherwise it may be another uncomfortable afternoon for the management.

However when you have the every present Luke Lipinski in the middle of the park alongside Rob Sheriton then you have a decent spine to the team. The emergence of Liam Robson and Matt Curnock from the reserves has been encouraging, with Ben Harris and Tom Morgan running the channels up front the K’s have goals in them.

Make sure you get down to this game if you want to see a hard fought game. If you’re in the armed forces then entry is free!

Featured Clubs

Avon Rugby travel to North Bristol on Saturday in a 2.15 ko. Clive Book will be hoping for a good performance from his lads who have had a November to forget with only one win. They now sit in mid-table of the Western Counties North but have every chance this weekend of picking up a win to keep them in the hunt for a top 5 finish.

Bath Futsal Club are finally back to national league action this Sunday as they make the long trip up to Coventry. So far Bath have only managed two draws in the league and are at the wrong end of the table. Their last encounter with Coventry gained them a point in a close 8-8 draw with Bath conceding at the death. A change of manager for Bath has seen Michael Wootten concentrate on playing with the injured Billy Whittaker taking on the player manager duties. He has made a host of new signings and the team have played some behind doors friendlies over the 6 week break.

So this new look Bath squad will be eager to impress Whittaker as they finally get to show what they can do at national level. Make sure you check back with us early next week to see how all of our teams got on!

Wherever you are this weekend make sure you get out in your local area and enjoy the sport on offer at any level. If you have a recommendation on what teams we should be covering then get in touch!

Enjoy and #keepactive
