Weekend Preview: 8th/9th Nov ’14

Weekend Bath based Preview
8th-9th November 2014

By Mark Tanner

Nearly all of our local teams are away this weekend so instead attention will turn to a local fundraising game taking place in Keynsham:

Keynsham Town FC vs Waitrose Keynsham
Raising money for the Junior Club
AJN Stadium
9/11/14
KO 7pm

Waitrose Keynsham have accepted the challenge from Keynsham Town FC to take on their coaching staff in a game raising money for this Junior section. The main event is a 90 minute match kicking off at 7pm featuring Partners from the local branch against current and former players on the coaching team at the football club.

It’s free entry to watch and the bar will be open for spectators throughout. There is also a raffle going round with the prizes donated by M Tanner Sports to help raise that little bit more, tickets for £1. There will also be a junior game at around 6pm followed by a Walking Football match at 6.30 arranged by Nick Dewfall.

The junior football is run by volunteers who caters for ages 7-19 who then go on to feed into the senior sections of the club. So far this season a number of teenagers have made their first team debuts having come through this set up, most noticeably Matthew Curnock this season. However the club send all of their coaches on FA coaching courses paid for by the junior club. So to keep developing local players fundraising events like this is vital for the club to be able to pay their bills at the end of the season.

There has never been a better opportunity to see what community football is all about so come on down and take a look at the football for all ages!

Bath City, Larkhall, Keynsham, Avon Rugby and Bath Rugby are all away; with Bath Futsal still training hard during their league break. Bath City and Larkhall are both running coaches to Ebbsfleet and Evesham respectively (click on the links for details). Bath Rugby continue to compete in the cup against Exeter whilst Avon Rugby look to get back to winning ways in their rearranged match against Chosen Hill.

Finally Keynsham Town first team travel to Barnstaple Town, the side they lost 6-0 to at home in the Les Phillips Cup only a few weeks ago. Needless to say player-manager Chris King (who was sent off in that game) will be looking for a much better performance this time round after coming off the back of some good performances.

Odd Down is the only local game at home this weekend as they take on Shepton Mallet in what should be a great game on Saturday 3pm. Shepton are one of the better supported teams in the Western League and will be looking to catch up with Odd Down on points should they win. However the Bath based side are hard to beat and never give up; after a hard fought victory over Falmouth last weekend in the FA Vase. So if you can’t get away to watch the football or Rugby come on up and give Odd Down a try, their ground is right next to the Park and Ride.

Where will we be?

We will actually be taking in a Bitton game this weekend as they play Buckland Athletic in the Western League Premier Division. After tweeting the club we’re not sure how easy it will be to get a team sheet but will try and bring you a match report of the game. Also according to their Wiki they don’t like Keynsham so lets hope they don’t find out we’re based there or this could be the last post on the site!

Then on Sunday we’ll be bringing you tweets, pictures and maybe some sound bites from the Waitrose game.

It’s shaping up to be a great weekend of sport so make sure you take in a local game wherever you are. If you’re at one of our local teams games then get in touch and submit your thoughts or a match report. Enjoy it!
