Charity wins as Waitrose do battle

Keynsham Waitrose beat Bath Waitrose 5-3 in a charity football match on Sunday 24th August at Keynsham Town FC. The two branches were raising money for The Kelston Road Football Project, who give children free football coaching in the summer holidays.

Over 60 people watched the action unfold on the pitch on a warm summer’s evening, with Bath opening the scoring through their captain Mike Pattemore and the scores were level at 2-2 going into the break. After the break Keynsham then raced into a two goal lead with the quick feet of Mark West and Tom Summerhill’s pace. However Bath pulled a goal back only for Tom to score his third of the game shortly after; before forced off with an injury. Jack Nicholas was M Tanner Sports MOTM with the midfielder putting in an all action display and scoring Keynsham’s other goal.

A great time was had by all the Partners involved and the crowd raised just over £100 in a bucket collection. Kelston provided the linesmen and referee for the game with Bath City FC supplying one of the kits free of charge. The total amount raised for the Project was £285, which will help fund a half term session before Christmas.

Kelston will say good bye to Chipp Goverd and Louis Ryan who are off to University at the end of September. However Kelston will continue their good work later this year and next summer with more young coaches eager to get involved and put something back in the Keynsham community. The Project are now looking to form stronger links with Sports Foundations in Bath and Bristol.

There will be a re-match of Mike Pattemore’s Bath team against Joe Gardner’s Keynsham team in the coming months but with Bath having the home advantage and in support of a different charity.
