Weekend Bath based Preview
Sat 20th-Sun 21st Dec 2014

Bath City FC – You want some? I’ll give it ya

The first ever appearance of the Wealdstone Raider at Twerton Park this Saturday as Wealdstone are the visitors. The has been performing his Christmas Charity single in Bristol Night clubs on Thursday and Friday so we hope he hasn’t got too much of a hangover at the game.

In footballing terms Wealdstone will be facing an inform Bath side straight after their best performance for a few years as they beat Bristol Rovers 2-0 away last weekend in the FA Trophy. An own goal from a corner and a brave Frankie Artus header was enough to claim another famous cup victory. Jason Mellor was also one of the best keepers some of their fans had seen down there this season!

Bath now need to start to climb the league to be on target for a play off finish. The 4-4-2 diamond formation worked really well against Rovers with the key of the tactic being in an energetic midfield. Artus, Chas Hemmings, Chris Allen and Ashley Kington demonstrated this on Saturday with Danny Ball having a very commanding role at centre back. So Bath fans will be confident of getting something from the game despite strong travelling support from Wealdstone.

This match is also being used to launch Twerton Park as being a Bath Foodbank collection point from now on. There will be buckets going round for money donations to go towards paying for their own storage container and a permanent food donation point in Charlies bar.

Larkhall, Odd Down and Keynsham Town

Larkhall now have a league break until boxing day but our Western League sides are both at home this weekend.

The break for the Larks has come at the right time giving Wayne Thorne a decent chance to work with his side on the training field after two narrow defeats in the league last week. A decent start to life at their highest ever level has pleased everyone involved with the club but the testing time will come in the second half of the season to see if they can maintain it. We’re sure they can and looking forward to reporting on their progress after Christmas.

Odd Down are back at home this weekend as they entertain Bridport. Bridport sit in 6th place in the Western League Premier Division and have already beaten Odd Down 2-0 at their place back in August. So it will be a tough game for Odd Down who lost to Slimbridge last weekend 1-0 away.

Keynsham Town welcome a strong Cribbs side to the AJN Stadium this Saturday. Cribbs are second in the Western League Division One with Keynsham at the wrong end of a 22 team table in 18th. Chris King needs points on the board and narrowly lost last weekend away to Devizes 3-2 so can take some comfort in the fact that he has got his side scoring goals again.

Remember members of the Forces can get into Odd Down and Keynsham games for free for the whole season when they bring their forces ID with them.

Featured Clubs

Avon Rugby come off the back of a win and a draw to face Barton Hill at home this Saturday in a 2.15pm ko. Avon have started to improve again and will feel they should have won last weekend so Clive Book will have to focus their anger into a solid performance in a bid to climb the league again.

A much improved Bath Futsal Club welcome Hereford Futsal Club to Hayesfield School this Sunday in a 2pm ko. Hereford sneaked a 4-3 win last time in the league but this new look Bath side will provide them with a stern test this weekend. They now have a commanding 10-1 win over Coventry Futsal away under the belts and progression in the FA Futsal Cup last weekend in Birmingham. Billy Whittaker will have some hard decisions to make over selecting a team for this game as some of this University players may have already gone home for Christmas. There is a question mark over inform winger Brad Hefferman, getting 7 goals in this last two outings, as to his availability but there will be chances for some of the developing players to feature from the bench.

So there is plenty of sport to look forward to this weekend. Are we missing out your team? Get in touch! #keepactive
