Bath Futsal Club travelled to last years undefeated Division 2 champions, Gloucester Uni with another under-strength squad. However Bath were still very confident with getting a decent result.
The First half saw Gloucester quickly going ahead while Bath found their feet in the game. Bath struggled with the new defensive set up with some players not fully understanding the new method! Manager Michael Wootten made some changes after a few minutes which proved of great benefit to the game. Bath quickly got a goal back and we able to keep the game close throughout the game. The Gloucester Goal keeper was pulling off some great saves with them only being able to score on the counter attack against Bath.
Bath came in at Half time 4-3 down and can come away from the first half feeling that they controlled the ball better and had the general better play. The second half started brightly for Bath and they quickly started to test the Gloucester Keeper, he was pulling out some terrific saves against some very good efforts from the Bath side that were really making Gloucester work hard.
Gloucester spent almost all the second half on the back foot with Bath controlling possession, Bath let themselves down with some offensive errors which allowed Gloucester to break and get some quick goals. The Game finished 7 – 5 to Gloucester but Bath can be very happy with the overall result. Remove some of the fantastic saves from the Gloucester keeper and the result may have been different.
Player Manager Michael Wootten said:
“Although I find myself again finding positives from a game in which we lost. I think that people can see from the Video we were overall unlucky to come away being beaten.
I have been happy with our overall performances against good opposition in preseason and all is looking great for our league and cup campaign.
I am looking now at this Sunday’s game against Gloucester Futsal Revolution and how we can use what we have learnt in the previous games to our advantage”
