Weekend Preview
Bath based
6th-8th Feb 2015
Football
Lot’s of decent games this weekend but first up is Keynsham Town at home to Roman Glass St George in a 8pm ko on Friday 6th. The Keynsham Town are hoping to smash their record attendance record for this season by moving their Western League Div One game to Friday night. This way people that play and watch football already on a Saturday can come along to the AJN Stadium and enjoy the football and a pint under the lights.
Chris King’s lads put in a great performance against a strong Corsham side last weekend at home drawing 1-1 and are looking to pick up all 3 points this time. Roman Glass are down at the wrong end of the table with only 21 points from 27 games. Keynsham are 5 places above them on just 31 points from 32 games so a win would give either side a lot of confidence going into the final 3rd of the season.
Bath City have an historic away trip in the latter stages of the FA Trophy on Saturday away at Dover in a 3pm ko. A full supporters coach along with cars and people on the train will depart early on Saturday morning to see their team in the Quarter finals for the first time in 25 years.
This season is Bath City’s 125 season and it will be one to remember if they can make it through to the semi finals, let alone the finals of the competition. However they have Dover in their way who have adapted to life in the Conference Premier very well. Currently 12th in the table they have already dispatched Lowestoft and Woking to get to this stage in the FA Trophy and also beat Cheltenham in the FA Cup this season, losing to Premier League side Crystal Palace in the 3rd round.
Odd Down are up to 5th in the Western League Premier following their 3-1 home win over Willand Rovers. They make the short trip to Bitton this Saturday in a 3pm ko. Currently in 3rd place Bitton are fighting it out for top spot in a very tight league this season, so Odd Down will have to be at their very best to take all 3 points.
Larkhall don’t have a game this weekend, instead they travel to Cinderford Town in the league on Tuesday night. This gives Wayne Thorne to access any injuries to the squad and scout some local games this weekend.
Rugby
Bath Rugby are at home this weekend to Ospreys in the next stage of the LV Cup. It should be another sell out crowd on Saturday for the 3pm ko so make sure you get to their ticket office on Pultney bridge quickly to get yours. Bath will be looking to go all the way in this competition so make sure you get down to see them when they’re at home!
Our featured club Avon Rugby are travelling to Bristol this Saturday to play Old Bristolians in the league. Early in the season Avon dispatched them 28-13 at home so Clive Book will be looking for another strong performance from his lads. Their victory over Cheltenham last weekend will give them great confidence going into this game as they are now unbeaten in their last 4 games in all competitions.
Futsal
Bath Futsal club travel to Oxford Futsal in the league knowing that a win would all but secure their national league status this Sunday. Billy Whittaker has had a whole two weeks of preparation for this game as last weekend their league game was called off due to travel problems for their opponents. This gave their captain, Howard Dennis an extra week to shake off an injury picked up in training.
The club has also had a good uptake in their junior Futsal sessions this week with nearly a full session for the next 6 weeks:
We are delighted to announce the start of a 6 week pilot futsal sessions for 11 – 14 year olds. The sessions will start Monday 2nd February and continue every Monday for 6 weeks. Sessions will start at 6pm and last until 7pm.
The cost of the sessions is £20 for 6 or £5 per week.
