Wayne’s Rovers
March 2015
Gateshead & Eastleigh
On Saturday Rovers travelled north to face Gateshead. Last time the teams met it was an entertaining game with Rovers winning 3-2.
Over the weekend I saw lots of tweets from Gasheads saying ‘on route to Gateshead’, and fair play to all of those who made the long trip, be it by car, coach, train or plane!
I got slated last time I wrote about an away game that I didn’t attend, so I won’t go into too much detail…
Rovers were looking to extended their unbeaten run, but as Gateshead had showed at the Mem they are a decent, well organised side and were unlucky not to have been promoted last season.
I was in London spending time with my fiancée and her sister, although I was on Twitter constantly checking the score. We had just left the Imperial War Museum and were heading to a pub when Ellis Harrison gave Rovers the lead. This would be the only goal of the game.
Harrison has been the hero in the last few games and fair play to him as he has had to put up with a lot of stick from so called fans.
After this result Rovers were still top of the league. Barnet also won their game so are still a point behind us.
Stuart Sinclair left the pitch injured which is a massive blow as he had only just returned from injury. It looks like he will be out for a while. I feel for him as he’s such a great pro and shows so much passion for the club – get well soon Stuart!
Next up for Rovers was Eastleigh at home.
Unfortunately it wasn’t Rovers’ day and we were second best – Eastleigh were better all over the park.
Matty Taylor gave Rovers a bit of hope towards the end of the game when he stole one back, but unfortunately we couldn’t get another goal.
The game ended 2-1 to the visitors. Even though we lost we are still sitting at the top of the league, although it’s looking really tight up at the top now.
Eastleigh was always going to be a tough game as they have many players who would easily fit in to any League Two side. On paper they have the best strike force in the division with both former Oxford player James Constable and former AFC Wimbledon player Jack Midson.
This week Chris Lines has re-joined Rovers on loan until the end of the season. What a great move by Darell Clarke and the club to get him back!
Everyone has their own opinion on Chris, but I’ve always rated him as a player. We have just 8 games left now so hopefully he will be able to help us get some more points on the board.
Congratulations to Darrell Clarke who has picked up the Vanarama Manager of the Month Award again. Also, congratulations to Jamie Lucas who has won the Player of the Month Award for the Vanarama Conference South. He’s been on great form whilst on loan at Weston Super Mare and has scored a lot of goals for them.
