Matt’s marathon effort for Charity

Local businessman Matthew Sutherland will be attempting to ride 16 half marathons in just 16 hours to raise money for two charities close to his heart. CLAPA and The Bath Rugby Foundation are the two charities he is riding for on Thursday 16th July down at Bath’s Fitness First gym.

On the day he will be cycling 208 miles from 6am to 10pm and will need your support to spur him on. Matt says “The challenge will be very hard on the legs but more so mentally it will be tough due to being in one spot pretty much the whole day.

It will be great to see you down there on the day itself! I’ve never done anything like this before so hopefully I can raise as much money as possible.”

You can even ride alongside him for extra support!

CLAPA (Cleft Lip & Palate Association) helps families with children born with a cleft lip and offer advice and support to their families. “They helped my sister & brother in law before he was born and afterwards and ongoing. Ellis went through a lot in the first couple of months of being born having to have surgery at only 11 and half weeks old.” says Matt.

He goes on to explain the longer term effects and they work the charity does “The surgeon did an amazing job however cleft lips & palates can have long term effect on children and families and if a child is born with a cleft palate it can affect their future life with feeding, talking and many other things.”

The Bath Rugby Foundation is the other charity set to benefit which enhances the lives of young people through sport, with a particular focus on those with social and other disadvantages. They work in the local community running Education and Inclusion programmes using Sport to engage young people aged two and above. Programmes are designed to enthuse and motivate, helping people to reach their potential in all areas of life.

Make sure you get on down and donate on the day and cheer Matt on an extra few miles whilst you’re there. Alternatively if you can’t make it there then please visit his Virgin Money Giving page to donate at any time.

Best of luck Matt! #keepactive
