Opinion piece
Watching and playing football has given me an opportunity to get outside and meet a lot of new people from different backgrounds in and who work in a variety of interesting roles away from football.
One guy I have been following on Twitter after meeting him at Bath City is James Carlin. James is passionate about his job at Local Giving and now his account is near on solely based to giving light to local projects in the South West.
Two projects tied in nicely with sports and so I’m delighted to help share them with you on my site.
The Summer Play Days are a valuable resource for many families who live in Bath and surrounding areas and those who visit during the holidays. Our team of friendly Playworkers bring resources and fun play opportunities to parks and open spaces across Bath and , encouraging families to get involved and have fun outdoors!
They are looking for £5000 to keep this project going.
The money raised will be spent on play resources for our activities which have included woodwork, wheelie fun days, treasure hunt, outdoor cooking, smoothie bike, slacklining, den building, waterslide, bouncy castle and slide, arts and crafts, loose parts, bubbles, face painting and sports.
The other project is –
Special Olympics Sheffield 7th – 12th August 2017 for Keynham & District Mencap
It’s the largest sports event to take place in Britain for people with a learning disability. The Games gives athletes with a learning disability the opportunity to achieve and to demonstrate their abilities to the community. The Games welcome over 5,000 family members and friends to the stands to cheer on and celebrate the athletes. This would be a fantastic opportunity for 12 of our members, who are keen to watch their peers take part in accessible sporting activities.
They are looking for £750 to get to the games
The money will support 12 local people with learning disabilities and their support workers take an overnight trip to watch the Special Olympics in Sheffield in August 2017. Whilst some of our members do work they have very low incomes, many of our members live below the poverty line and so Keynsham and District Mencap Society offer a service which would be inaccessible to most.
Please do give James a follow on Twitter and do take a look at some of the none sports projects too and donate what you can to any of the causes on there.
