Midweek Fixtures 1st March 2016

City are at home!

The weekend’s fixtures weren’t the best for our local Bath based teams. Two draws and the rest were defteats but within sport there is always the opportunity to bounce back very quickly.

Bath City were one of the teams who managed a draw much to the delight of new City boss Gary Owers who is still unbeaten:

They are straight back into the thick of things with a game tonight against Gosport Borough. KO is at 7.45 with family tickets available from the office before the game for just £20 for two adults and two children.

Western Premier leaders AFC Odd Down have to wait until the weekend to build on their hard fought 0-0 home draw at the weekend. Larkhall and Keynsham will also have to wait as they both suffered defeats at the weekend along with Bath Rugby.

There are a couple of other games of note this evening:

Brislington vs Bridport
ko 7.30pm – 12th vs 11th in the Weston Premier League as Brislington look to capitalise on their home advantage to go level on points with Bridport.

Hallen vs Longwell Green
ko 7.45pm – Longwell Green will be pleased taking a point against Bradford Town at the weekend but their management know that they will need to take all three tonight. Hallen will also be looking over their shoulder now as the bottom few teams having started to close the gap to just 14 points; so a win will be vital in staying up this season.

Portishead vs Almondsbury UWE
ko 7.30pm – Just a point separates these two teams in the Weston League Div One. Although there is seemingly nothing to play for this season for either team both managers will know that finishing as high up the table as possible will help them attract better players next season.

Wincanton vs Oldlands Abbotonians
ko 7.30pm – Wincanton will be confident of another home win after seeing off Keynsham at the weekend in a bid to pull away from the bottom two. However Oldlands will be gunning for an away win knowing that a late run could see them finish inside the top six.

Then there are also fixtures to be played on Weds 2nd March:

Roman Glass St George vs Chippenham Park
ko 7.30pm – Similar to the Portishead fixture both team will be looking to finish strongly this season after finding themselves in the bottom half of the table at the ‘business end’ of the season.

Buckland Athletic vs Bristol Manor Farm
ko 7.30pm – The weekend couldn’t have gone much worse for Manor Farm. They were finally overcome in the FA Vase in the quarter finals and slipped down to third place and a further point behind Odd Down. So a victory over Buckland will lift them back up to 2nd place but it’s a tough ask with their part time players taking time off work again for another long away trip.

Clevedon Town vs Welton Rovers
ko 7.30pm – Welton finally got a long awaited league win on Saturday, beating Bitton 1-0 at home. This puts them within four points of safety, providing Longwell Green lose on Tuesday, so a win would be massive for this well respected club. However this is the ultimate relegation 6 pointer with Clevedon just a point ahead of Welton so expect a crunching game where no quarter will be given anywhere across the pitch.

There you have it some vital games at this stage of the season tonight and tomorrow. If you’ve never watched a Western League game before it might be worth heading over the Clevedon on Weds night to see a must win game.
